The short version
Dizzipline ("we", "us") is a student-built study app available at dizzipline.app. It turns your Canvas coursework into missions, XP and streaks, with an AI assistant called Dizzi. Questions about this policy: support@dizzipline.app.
Dizzipline is an independent app. It is not made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Instructure (the maker of Canvas) or any school unless that school says so.
| Data | Why we use it | Where it's kept |
|---|---|---|
| Your school's Canvas address and your Canvas access token (or school sign-in token) | To read your courses and assignments from Canvas, and to submit work when you choose to. | In our login session store while you're signed in. Never put in URLs or shown on screen after you connect. Sessions expire after 7 days. |
| Coursework from Canvas: course names, assignment names, due dates, points, descriptions and whether you've submitted | To build your missions, due-date reminders and plans. | Fetched live from Canvas each time you use the app. We don't save a copy of your coursework in our database. |
| Your name from your Canvas profile | To greet you in the app. | In your login session only. |
| Dizzipline progress: XP, level, streaks, which assignments you completed in the app, focus minutes, and any difficulty or time estimates you edit | To run the game: levels, streaks and rewards. | In our database, linked to an anonymous ID created from your Canvas connection with a one-way code. It does not contain your name or email. |
| Work you submit through Dizzipline (text, a link or a file) | To send it to Canvas for you. | Passed straight to Canvas. We don't keep a copy. |
| Dizzi chat messages | To answer your questions using AI. See section 3. | We don't store chat text. We log the time of each message, the anonymous ID, whether the AI answered, and how long it took. |
| First name and email typed during setup | To personalize your setup during the beta. | Saved only in your own browser on your device. Not sent to our servers. |
| Usage analytics (see section 4) | To understand which features work and where people get stuck. | With our analytics provider, PostHog. |
Canvas may send grade or score information along with assignment data. Dizzipline does not store it, display it, or use it.
When you chat with Dizzi, your message, the last few messages of the conversation, and a summary of your open assignments (names, course names, due dates, time estimates) plus your XP and streak are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a reply.
During the beta, Dizzipline uses Google's free Gemini API tier. Under Google's terms, content sent through the free tier may be used by Google to improve its products, and may be read by human reviewers. Please don't share sensitive personal information (for example health, financial or ID details) in Dizzi chat.
Dizzi's answers can be wrong. Always check important details, like due dates and instructions, in Canvas.
We use PostHog to understand how Dizzipline is used. It records:
We never send your Canvas token, name, email, course names, assignment titles, grades or chat messages to analytics.
We use one cookie to keep you signed in. PostHog uses a cookie and browser storage to recognize returning visitors. If you block analytics with a browser extension, Dizzipline still works normally.
We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't use it for advertising. We only share data with services that run Dizzipline:
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Dizzipline uses HTTPS on every page, encrypted connections to our database, and access to production data is limited to the Dizzipline team. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your Canvas token private and only paste it into dizzipline.app.
Dizzipline is meant for students using their own Canvas accounts. We use coursework data from Canvas only to provide Dizzipline's features to that student. Dizzipline is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
